This work was selected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of André Evard. In honor of this influential artist, the Kunsthalle Messmer presents the international André Evard Prize, dedicated to the field of concrete-constructive art.

The prize is dedicated to one of the forefathers of concrete-constructive art, the Swiss artist André Evard (1876–1972). From 1913 onward, Evard explored geometric abstraction in his paintings, becoming one of the first non-figurative artists in Europe and a pioneer of Swiss constructive-geometric painting. The works of the Swiss artist form the core of the collection at the Messmer Art Gallery.

“DECONSTRUCTION”, Assembled Valchromat, 65 x 60 x 60 cm

Sculpture composed of assembled wooden elements in primary colors. This project explores how identity exists in a constant process of construction and deconstruction, reflecting the ways in which we position ourselves within space and within the broader structures of society.

As the viewer moves around the sculpture, its geometry and spatiality continuously transform. Overlapping planes and shifting voids generate changing formal and chromatic relationships across the wooden structure, producing an evolving visual experience through movement and perception.
