Commissioned by the London-based design studio Double Decker for Queen Anne, this polished brass sculpture celebrates the maritime heritage, leadership, and enduring spirit of Cunard’s seven Commodores. Positioned within the ship as a permanent artwork, it serves as both a tribute to those who have commanded Cunard vessels and a reflection on the timeless experience of life at sea.

The sculpture’s flowing circular forms draw inspiration from the iconic Commodore insignia, translating its symbolism into a contemporary sculptural language. Curving seamlessly through space, the work evokes movement, continuity, and navigation, embodying the rhythm of ocean travel and the passage of time across vast horizons.

Crafted in highly polished brass, the sculpture becomes a vessel for light. Its reflective surface captures the changing environment of the ship, mirroring the movement of passengers, the shifting daylight, and the surrounding architecture. As natural light changes throughout the day, warm golden reflections transform into deeper amber and copper tones, recalling the atmospheric transitions that define dawn and dusk at sea.

Like the ocean itself, the sculpture is never entirely static. Its appearance evolves through reflection, movement, and light, creating a dynamic relationship between the artwork and its surroundings. In this way, it embodies both the ceremonial legacy of Cunard’s Commodores and the emotional experience shared by generations of transatlantic travelers: the daily spectacle of the sun rising from and disappearing into the horizon, marking the passage of a journey across the sea.

The result is a work that connects maritime tradition with contemporary form, honoring leadership, navigation, and the enduring beauty of ocean travel through a language of light, reflection, and movement.
